Blueberries are just about the best fruit you can eat, and one of the best foods overall! A lot of that value comes from the antioxidant anthocyanin compounds, that give the blueberry its blue color. If you’re unfamiliar, you should definitely do a little research on why blueberries are so highly valued. And on top of that, of course, they taste great!
But when you get them home from the grocery store, you’d better use them or cook them or freeze them soon, because they can get moldy pretty quickly. Maybe not as quickly as raspberries, but still, it’s something you have to be careful about.
Unless, of course, you buy your blueberries freeze dried. Freeze dried blueberries are the perfect snack. Small enough to get several in a handful, lightweight, and dry and crunchy. And so long as you don’t expose them to too much humid air, they’ll stay nice and crunchy. And when you remove the water from them during freeze drying, the process seems to concentrate the flavor. So they can be even more delicious in the freeze dried form.
