Did you know that Milk Duds® were initially called “duds” because their inventor considered them a failure? He was trying to form them into perfect spheres, and just couldn’t get the shape to hold. When you freeze dry these “duds,” the caramel center explodes into a light, airy, crunchy shape that’s often much more spherical, but they’re almost never perfect. Even so, with the resulting flavor and texture, they’re anything but duds!
Amazingly, the chocolate coating makes it through the process in good shape, even though chocolate is one type of food that supposedly cannot be successfully freeze dried. So if you want chocolate freeze dried candy, this is one of your better options. Our Giraffe Eggs™ are one other option, but the best option for chocolate is a product we will introduce here in coming weeks.
Which brings us to the name: Furbals, which comes from their appearance. But even if they look like fur balls, you can be certain they taste like heaven!
